The Peterhof Palace(also known as Petrodvorets. ru:Петергоф) is a series of palaces and gardens located in Saint Peterburg, Russia, laid out on the orders of Peter the Great. These Palaces and gardens are sometimes referred as the ”Russian Versailles” (Wikipedia)

Initially, it was a simple hunting lodge beside the Batlic Sea, intended for relaxation. However, Peter the Great liked his summer residence so much, that following a visit to Versailles, he decided to expand it according to the French style and turn it into the ”Stone Palace”: Peterhof.(source: European royal residence)
